directsync4i bears the IBM certificate "Ready for IBM DB2 Data Server Software"
directsync4i mirrors data from a Source system to a Target system in real-time – a secure, fast high availability solution for the Power i system (System i, i5, iSeries or AS/400). It is budget friendly and is especially made for small to medium sized companies. The directsync4i solution is especially convenient to operate and administer. Installation in under an hour and you are ready to perform your first tests with directsync4i!
Two directsync4i versions for individual needs
A directsync4i Single System Edition for users who work on a single IBM System i Server and do not want to operate a second server for backups.
A directsync4i Dual System Edition for users who possess a second (e.g. older) System i Server that can be utilized as a backup server.
The directsync4i Single System Edition
This version mirrors all data changes in real-time on a gateway computer in an IBM DB2 v9.7 database. After a failure and restoration of the main system, the changes can be completely restored since the last backup.
The directsync4i Dual System Edition
With the Dual System Edition version, database changes on a production system can be transferred to an IBM DB2 v9 database (and buffered – the backup system can be slower than the production system, the buffer in the gateway can balance out different system speeds). The data then can be asynchronously written to the backup system, a second System i. Should the main system fail, you can continue to work with the actual data on the second system. It doesn’t matter if the backup system is on the LAN next door or (attainable via VPN) on an entirely different continent.

No more daily backup stresses
directsync4i continually writes all production system changes to a gateway PC. The daily backup throughout the week on a production system along with it’s restrictions can be eliminated and your performance can stay at 100 percent. Should a critical failure occur, the data changes can simply be restored from the gateway PC. A backup on the weekend will be enough.
Easy system analytics
Alone the analysis of other systems and respective solutions cost more than directsync4i; directsync4i only needs one program for the system check. It lists critical information. No costly analysis – the program is fully automatic.
Dual System Edition – use an older backup server
Although directsync4i in the Dual System Edition works with a real backup server, there are practically no hardware/software costs:
- directsync4i requires minimal resources on a production system. It also functions with older and/or slower systems, e.g an older Power i Server that is still available.
- directsync4i supports multiple operating systems on production and backup systems. For example, on the production system, V5R4 can be running while the backup system uses V4R5.
- Free IBM licenses may be obtained for the backup system under certain conditions.
Buffering brings performance and additional security
Buffering of data via transmission from the gateway PC to the backup system has further advantages:
- The gateway PC continually collects data from the production system. If the backup system isn’t currently available (e.g. currently backing up or performing a release update), it can write the data to the backup system at a later point in time.
- Buffering provides for a considerably better performance on the production system, if the backup system is slower than the production system.
- Because data retrieval from the production system is faster, the assurance is higher: more data can be saved after a failure.
Certified and Excellence
directsync4i bears the IBM certificate “Ready for IBM DB2 Data Server Software”. It also received the Innovation award from the Initiative Mittelstand in the category of “System Management”, for especially creative and innovative products at the CeBIT.
