The Toolmaker Software GmbH has acquired the EDP Consulting business of Centurio-Tools of Worms as of May 1. With the litters products CenturioDB and Centurio i2i, Toolmaker enhances its portfolio and gains access to new segments of the Power i software markets.

CenturioDB (now: directaccess4i) is a middleware database that offers real-time access directly out of System i RPG or COBOL programs onto almost all external databases (Oracle, Informix, MySQL, etc.). Data can be read from and written to external sources as well. CenturioDB is significantly faster than current solutions. Users will be interested with the direct access of data from the Power i in Excel spreadsheets and external databases with only one SQL command.

Centurio i2i (now: directsync4i) is used for data availability of the Power i data. Toolmaker prizes the product as an extremely economical alternative to current high availability solutions and offers a type of high availability for the small business. directsync4i bears the IBM certificate “Ready for IBM DB2 data server software”. It is offered in two versions:

•    The directsync4iSingle System Edition continually copies database changes from the System i to an IBM DB2 V9 on a Windows PC. Should a failure and restoration of the main system be required, the changes since the last backup can be completely recovered from the PC.
•    With the directsync4iDual System Edition, database changes are transferred to a second System i. Should the main system fail, you can continue to work with your actual data using the second system.

The CEO of Toolmaker, Josef Grünbichler, has already initiated a new version of the Centurio tools for a Fall 2010 marketing campaign with enhanced functionality of the tools. Markus Litters explains in a letter to his customers: “I am absolutely convinced that the Centurio Tools will have a great future with Toolmaker Software.”
